Members of the Mentor Support Network were able to congratulate 2020 scholarship holders and mentors at a small function on Monday 14 December.
Head of the refugee scholarship committee, Pat O’Flaherty, said it had been a difficult year and that both students and mentors deserved praise for their efforts in maintaining communication and ensuring a focus on their studies.
The gathering was held at the Newcastle Harness Club and scholarship holders were presented
with a certificate to mark their achievements.
Pat made special mention of our band of mentors who worked hard despite the impact of COVID-19 and also thanked the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation is supporting the refugee scholarship program in 2020.
He said all parties had worked well together, the benefit being the success of the students and the valuable input of the mentors.
