MSN thanks sponsors

Mentor Support Network thanks it’s sponsors

The Hunter Region’s Mentor Support Network (MSN) is paying tribute to its sponsors as their substantial support is allowing the organisation to offer 42 scholarships to local students under its 2023 Educational Scholarship Program.

Chair of MSN, Judy Hart, said many companies, clubs and individuals from various sectors were supporting the organisation by providing funds for a program that increases in importance each year.

“MSN is a dynamic not-for-profit organisation that assists young students experiencing significant socio-economic difficulties or family challenges,” said Judy.

“We began operations in 2002 and expanded operations in 2008 from being a purely mentor support organisation to providing financial scholarships for high school students entering Year 11 or the final years of their training/vocational studies at local institutions such as TAFE.

“The scholarship program has now grown to be the main focus of MSN as it assists bright, capable students achieve their academic goal despite financial or family circumstances.”

Judy said the support of sponsors was greatly appreciated – as it will be by the 42 students receiving scholarships.

Among local companies, clubs, groups and organisations supporting MSN in 2023 are:

  • Aurizon (Community Giving Fund)
  • Burton Automotive Group
  • ClubGRANTS NSW (Beresfield Bowling Club, East Maitland Bowling Club, Hexham Bowling Club, MEX Club)
  • Hunter Valley Training Company
  • Knitters Guild of NSW Inc (Newcastle Branch)
  • Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (Community Support Program)
  • The Mutual Bank
  • University of Newcastle Rugby Union Club (Bernie Curran Scholarship)

“It is so encouraging to see local companies, clubs, groups, organisations and individuals invest in the future education of young people in the Hunter Region,” said Judy.

“Without them, we would not be able to offer valuable support to students who may otherwise miss the opportunity of not finishing their high school studies or training/vocational studies.”

The 42 scholarships being offered in 2023 brings the total number to about 770 since 2008, the overall value being about $770,000. MSN is planning a major ceremony in May to present the 2023 educational scholarship certificates to the group of 42 students.
